Calling all artists! Submissions are now open for two 2016 summer-long programs: Minigolf and Sculpture!
FIGMENT NYC hosts a number of summer-long programs on NYC's Governors Island. From June through September you will find these wildly creative, original exhibitions on the island. They are all FREE for the public to enjoy and interact with while the island is open. We are currently accepting submissions from artists who want to participate in these exciting programs in 2016.
Minigolf Course
(c) 2015 Fil Maresca--From Here to Tranquility by Tad Philipp and Pam Tucker
Over the past 8 summers, FIGMENT has created a free, artist-designed Minigolf Course on Governors Island in New York City. This course has received a substantial amount of critical acclaim and media attention, and delighted hundreds of thousands of visitors of all ages.
Theme: FIGMENT’s theme for the 2016 Minigolf Course is “Mini is the New Big.” Since Minigolf course designers often shrink common structures such as windmills, buildings, bridges, etc, this year we ask our artists to do the opposite: to create BIG versions of small objects. Proposal ideas should incorporate clever playability within an every day object. Think Claes Oldenburg, Florentijn Hofmanor, Jeff Koons, Honey I Shrunk the Kids (though please be sure not to use any proprietary, copyrighted, or trademarked symbols or characters in your proposal).
Check out our Call For Submissions page for more information and proposal criteria.
Deadline for submissions: 11:59 pm ET on March 1, 2016!
Sculpture Program:
(c) 2015 Fil Maresca--Common Picnic by Risa Puno
***Attend the FIGMENT Summer-Long Sculpture Program Informational Session Monday, November 16, 2016, 7pm (Specifically for prospective applicants.) Location: The Hollow Nickel, 494 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn. RSVP Here.***
The FIGMENT Summer-Long Sculpture Program has been a huge success over the last 7 summers, receiving substantial media attention and over 100,000 visitors a year. Subject to approvals and permitting, FIGMENT’s 2016 Summer-Long Program will again be located at the beautiful south end of the Parade Ground. It is free and open to the public 7 days a week while the island is open, from June 10th-August 26th!
We will select 3-5 large-scale interactive sculptures that are daring and creative. Our team will work closely with artists to bring their ideas to life. The work must survive the elements for the summer months during constant interactivity with the public. The pieces should have the potential to be repaired and relocated after the summer to other venues for reuse/reinstallation.
Deadline for Submissions: 11:59 pm ET on January 15, 2016
