I have big news to share with you. After 12 years of creating interactive events and experiences on Governors Island, FIGMENT NYC will be moving in 2019, for the first time in our history. I am pleased to announce that FIGMENT NYC will take place on June 1-2, 2019, on Roosevelt Island in Lighthouse Park.
We are very excited about our new collaboration with the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), and we are very eager to reach out to the people of Roosevelt Island to involve them as participants, artists, and organizers of FIGMENT NYC 2019.
We are extremely proud of our history and success on Governors Island. As the first large-scale annual arts event on the island, FIGMENT has been a catalyst for having people first discover the island, for bringing other arts groups and new programming to the island, and driving annual visitorship on Governors Island from 50,000 in 2007 to nearly 800,000 in 2017. However, with the island's increasing success, it has grown more challenging over time for FIGMENT to utilize the island successfully to create impactful programming.
We wish the Trust for Governors Island and the Friends of Governors Island the best of success in continuing to develop Governors Island.
And we invite you all to get involved in FIGMENT NYC 2019 on Roosevelt Island as a volunteer team member or as a presenting artist! We will be announcing our Call for Proposals for the City of Dreams Pavilion on Roosevelt Island (in partnership with the ENYA Committee of the AIA NY Chapter and SEAoNY) in the next few days, with more announcements to follow. And please join us at our FIGMENT Fundraiser & Masquerade Ball at Caveat NYC on October 15 to support FIGMENT NYC and our calendar of FIGMENT events in other cities around the US and in select locations around the world.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all about our move to Roosevelt Island. We welcome your participation and creativity as we make this exciting transition!
