Brianna ShuttleworthPillow TalkActivity Pillow Talk explores communication, external stresses, and past romances with your current partner. The game takes place on a throw pillow placed between participants. They are to keep a form of physical contact with their partner for the duration of play. Most players will choose to hold each other's hands. While the play is in progress, the players answer a set of questions about their relationship. Responding to the questions and creating dialogue around them is the only form of verbal communication that can happen until the end of the game.

Hunter College Elementary School 6th Grade STEAM CollectiveMini-Golf Out of the WoodsInstallation 6th Grade students from Hunter College Elementary School collaborated to create an accessible mini-golf course inspired by their favorite fairy tales. An overarching theme among many classic fairy tales is the importance of working together as a community; that problems which seem too large for us to solve as individuals, can be conquered together. With this in mind, the 6th graders hope that the festival-goers that interact with the mini golf installation will feel motivated to help conquer one of the largest inequalities our city faces- accessibility, for all.

Maharu Maeno & Genesis Almanzarthe Museum of Make-up ArtVisual Art This project focuses on the creation of the Museum of Make-up Art (MoMA) as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is temporary closed. Participants of the project will make and use 100 percent organic natural cosmetics as a paint medium for creating 2D works of art. After exhibiting their work in the pop-up museum, participants will get the opportunity to interact with their own paintings as well as that of others in a unique way. They will do so by selecting colors they like from the works and applying them on their own skin or that of a loved one in an expressive way. As the project continues throughout the day, the Painted masterpieces will begin to change patterns as people transfer color to their bodies. As a curator, you may also choose and make up paintings for the audience. When you make someone up, what painting and colors do you choose? In what ways are you applying makeup to those who stand in front of you?
Qinza NajmTabdeeli (Urdu word for Transformation)Dance Tabdeeli, meaning “transformation” in Urdu, is a performance exploring cultural, political, and personal displacement. Notions of resisting, pushing against, and transcending barriers, taboos, and social and political norms are expressed through the dancers, who stretch and struggle within the translucent fabric constricting their movements. The movements of the dancers represent a journey that depends on the individual’s determination to reach his/her full potential, to change his/her narrative from one of trauma to healing. The audience becomes witness to this transformation and is encouraged to consider how their own narratives can be rewritten through participation.

These are paintings in actual color, but I have also taken photos of them as an outline to create an interactive drawing for viewers to be creative and also learn about the sculptures these painting are inspired from.

Living in urban areas the youth is out of touch with nature, and unaware how enjoyable and crucial for our existence it is. Thom Heyer & Friends, Thom Heyer & Friends/The Roosevelt Island Oral History Project"What's the 'T', Miss Roosevelt?"Multimedia In 1957 famed singer & songwriter, Alberta Hunter decided to give up her musical career to pursue nursing. She "reduced" her age, "invented" a high school diploma & enrolled in nursing school. She became a nurse at Goldwater Memorial Hospital & moved to Roosevelt Island for the next 20 years until forced to retire in 1977. She then returned to singing with regular gigs in the West Village, until her death in 1984. Hunter, a black woman, lived to be 89 years old. In 1927 famed entertainer, Mae West was sentenced to 10 days in prison at the women's workhouse on Roosevelt Island on charges of public obscenity for her play "Sex" on Broadway. She served 8 out of 10 of those days & was famously allowed to wear her silk panties instead of the scratchy prison-issue undergarments. West, a white woman, lived to be 87 years old. What conversations might these 2 women have had IF they had met? Two people representing Ms. Hunter & Ms. West will sit at a small table sipping tea & telling the "T" ("truth" or "tales") about their lives through song & stories & readings. They will encourage questions & participation from visitors. They may hang laundry cut-outs on a clothesline on which visitors may write or paint stories encouraging the importance of oral/living histories.

90TenXUrban NomadSum of Its PartsInstallation Aristotle said that, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” In other words, when individual parts are connected together to form one entity, they are worth more than if the parts were alone. Our concept for a seating solution is derived from that relationship of the whole to its parts. When all the parts are assembled, they look like a sculptural, colorful cube that sits in the field. When the pieces are separated, they act as a diverse set of colorful seating solutions that can be spread around the field by the users. These seats are meant to be fun and interactive for everyone. ponxFigments “Figment” is a piece inspired by the whimsicality and interactiveness of the Figment Art Fair. It is composed of several large paper mache fruit arranged in an anthropomorphic manner. This piece references the use of the still life painting in classical art. However, the three dimensional and life size installation encourages viewers to become part of the “still life” and interact with the made art objects. This process transforms the “still life” piece into an “active life” and interactive artwork. The video projection is a stop-motion animation of the paper mache fruit from the perspective of a personal cell phone. This multimedia portion of the piece further anthropomorphizes the fruit by placing them in a familiar environment as well as creating a longitudinal context in which to place the current installation. By portraying the fruit in this way, viewers become more familiar with the fruit and create different ways of relating to and interacting with them. All parts of “Figment” are made from recycled and found materials. Fruits are made of paper mache covered in tempura paint .

reactivedesignsheadspaceSculpture headspace is an interactive sculpture that engages the environment by reflecting its surrounding to create a symbiotic relationship between a man made object and the environment it is in. The object will invite people to experience themselves in a multi facet space that distorts their sense of perception similar to a kaleidoscope. The goal of headspace is to represent how each and everyone of us has their own perception on reality and how each of perceptions alters our living environment ultimately creating one world perception.
Townsend WestSURRENDERInstallation Surrender: What’s holding you back, holding you up, holding you down? Surrender it, and put it to rest. Participants are invited to dedicate one small white flag to one specific thing they commit to surrender. They will plant their flag in a field with others’ surrenderings (other white flags dedicated and planted by other members of the audience). We need to have the courage to recognize and fight for important causes, including the cause to fall back. The white flag is a symbol of surrender. But it’s also a symbol of mercy, of lives saved, of peace.
