TreeHouse Mural Art Call 2015

Call for Proposals:
FIGMENT NYC 2015 TreeHouse Mural Program

We are excited to announce FIGMENT is now accepting proposals for the NYC 2015 TreeHouse Mural Program!

FIGMENT is a free, annual celebration of participatory art and culture that began on Governors Island in 2007. It has since expanded to ten cites in three countries on two continents.

In New York, in addition to the FIGMENT event, FIGMENT has hosted an annual summer-long program on Governors Island since 2008 that includes an artist-designed minigolf course and an interactive sculpture program, which center around a bi-level 100-person capacity treehouse made from reclaimed wood. The façade of the treehouse is divided into 10' x 7' or 3'x10’ spaces that are painted by local artists with materials provided by Figment.

We are now accepting proposals for mural artists to create work based on the theme of this year’s minigolf course, “Getting From Here to There”. The proposals should reflect the artist’s interpretation of the concept of transportation, whether across state lines or between states of mind. With the vast choices for getting yourself or getting "goods" from one place to another, how do you choose to transport yourself, physically, mentally, or spiritually, from where you are now to where you want to be? Designs should interpret this year's theme with as much diversity of perspective as possible. You can interpret the theme literally, metaphorically, or with as much poetic license as you like. Be bold!

Please submit a general concept sketch and a link to your portfolio. Artists will be chosen by May 22nd. Murals will be painted Jun 1st  through the 5th.

Please visit the Sculpture Program web page to learn how to apply.

Deadline: May 15, 2015

To Submit a Proposal:

Submit your sculpture proposal by May 15, 2015 (11:59 ET). Email your proposal to [email protected]. Please make sure your proposal follows the guidelines described earlier in this document.

After this deadline our curators may request additional information, details on your proposal, or more materials before a final decision will be made in late March. Applicants should be prepared to be available to submit revisions and/or conduct interviews with the TreeHouse curators, should they be asked.

While we encourage teams of any age or experience level to submit entries, we will be looking for your ability to carry out the project based partially on past experience executing similar work. Attribution of the winner and finalists will be given based on the names of the individuals who design and build the project, rather than to any firm or organization with whom they are affiliated.
